Our origins

Where It All Began

Founded in 2016 by Zac Scheinbaum, Afterlife Press emerged from a desire to explore the history of tattooing while spotlighting the practitioners pushing the craft forward. Tattooing, like any art form, has undergone massive change in recent years—from underground tradition to global phenomena—and we aim to honor both its legacy and its future.

In a time when digital feeds dominate our visual culture, print carries a different weight. It demands attention, invites slow-thinking, and rewards exploration—qualities that align with the reverence we hold for tattoo-art culture.

What we do

More Than Just Books

At Afterlife Press, we collaborate with world-class tattoo artists, designers, photographers and printers to produce limited-edition publications that are as much art objects as they are books. Each project is rooted in deep conversations—original interviews, process sketches, high-resolution imagery—designed to give readers insight into the work, mindset and craft of the artists behind the needle.

Our print editions are intended to be held, dissected, returned to. They exist outside of the scroll—slow artifacts for artists, collectors, and enthusiasts who believe that tattoo culture deserves more than a fleeting feed.
